SCHEDULED CONSTRUCTION AND MAINTENANCE WORK

CULPEPER DISTRICT: Feb. 27-March 3, 2023

CULPEPER — The following highway work is scheduled, weather permitting, in the Culpeper District during the next week. Traffic movements may be restricted and speed limits reduced in work zones. (NEW) or (UPDATE) indicate revisions since last week’s report.

Albemarle County

(UPDATE) Albemarle Design-Build Projects – Be alert for construction activities in the following areas:

  • U.S. 250 (Richmond Road) at Interstate 64. Construction of diverging diamond interchange. Speed limit is reduced to 25 miles per hour. Expect shoulder closures, and stay alert for crews through the work zone.

  • U.S. 250 (Rockfish Gap Turnpike) at Route 151 (Critzer Shop Road). New roundabout. Be alert for equipment and workers near the travel lanes. Speed limit is reduced to 25 miles per hour. Expect flagging operations Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the following areas:

  • U.S. 250 (Rockfish Gap Turnpike) between Route 172 (Little Rock Lane) and Route 692 (Plank Road) in the eastbound and westbound lanes.

  • Route 151 (Critzer Shop Road) between U.S. 250 (Rockfish Gap Turnpike) and Route 803 (Goodloe Lane), in the northbound and southbound lanes.

(NEW) Interstate 64 – Ditch cleaning and shoulder repairs. Expect right and left shoulder closures between mile marker 100 and mile marker 124, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Interstate 64 — Tree removal operations. Expect right shoulder closures between mile marker 124 and mile marker 142 in the eastbound and westbound lanes, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

(UPDATE) Utility work under VDOT permit – Expect lane and shoulder closures in the following areas:

  • U.S. 29 (Seminole Trail), right northbound lane closure between Route 854 (Carrsbrook Drive) and Route 1670 (Ashwood Blvd), Monday through Friday, 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

  • Route 1403 (Berkmar Drive) will be closed between Route 1438 (Hilton Heights Road) and Route 631 (Rio Road) in the northbound and southbound lanes, daily.

(NEW) Route 20 (Scottsville Road) – Shoulder repairs. Northbound lane closed at Route 720 (Harris Creek Road) between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Tuesday. Traffic will be flagged through the work zone.

(NEW) U.S. 29 (Seminole Trail) – Ditch cleaning. Expect southbound left lane closure between Route 1438 (Hilton Heights Road) and Route 643 (Rio Mills Road), Tuesday 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

(NEW) U.S. 29/250 Bypass – Ditch cleaning. Expect southbound alternating lane closures between Route 654 (Barracks Road) and U.S. 29 interchange, Tuesday 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

(NEW) U.S. 250 (Rockfish Gap Turnpike) – Soil borings. Right lane and right shoulder closures in the vicinity of the I-64 interchange, Thursday and Friday, 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

(NEW) Route 22 (Louisa Road) – Bridge repairs. Expect alternating lane closures between Route 616 (Black Cat Road) and Route 648 (Clarks Tract), Tuesday 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Culpeper County

U.S. 522 (Sperryville Pike) – Other construction. Expect alternating lane closures with flaggers between Virginia Avenue and Aspen Street in the northbound and southbound lanes, daily, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

(NEW) Route 615 (Rapidan Road) – Bridge repairs. Expect alternating lane closures at Route 653 (Wilhoite Lane), Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

(NEW) Sign installation work –Right shoulder closures at the following locations for installation of traffic sign foundations, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.:

  • U.S. 15 between Route 299 (Madison Road) and Route 9566 (Simms Drive)

  • U.S. 29 at Route 721 (White Oak Road)

  • U.S. 211 (Lee Highway) from Route 621 (Colvin Road) to Route 29 (Rixeyville Road)

  • Route 3 (Germanna Highway) at Route 647 (Revercomb Road)

Fauquier County

(NEW) Interstate 66 – Shoulder repairs. Expect alternating lane closures between mile marker 31 and mile marker 18 in the eastbound and westbound lanes, Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Interstate 66 – Bridge deck repairs. Expect alternating lane closures between mile marker 29 and mile marker 32 in the westbound lanes, daily, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

(UPDATE) Route 610 (Aquia Road) – Utility work under VDOT permit. Expect lane closures between Route 846 (Beaver Lodge Road) and Route 848 (Tower Hill Road) in the eastbound lanes, Monday and Tuesday, 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Greene County

U.S. 33 (Spotswood Trail) — Road reconstruction. Both shoulders are closed between Route 680 (Pinewood Court) and U.S. 29 (Seminole Trail) in the eastbound and westbound lanes while crews work behind barrels. Traffic is diverted onto the newly constructed eastbound lanes while crews reconstruct the westbound lanes. Drivers should use caution through the work zone and stay alert for construction vehicles entering and exiting the roadway daily. Expected completion in summer 2023.

(NEW) U.S. 33 (Spotswood Trail) – Ditch cleaning. Mobile, alternating lane closures from Route 610 (Toms Road) to Route 680 (Pinewood Court), Tuesday and Wednesday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Louisa County

(UPDATE) Interstate 64 – Shoulder repairs. Expect shoulder closures between mile marker 131 and mile marker 148 in the eastbound and westbound lanes, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

(UPDATE) U.S. 33 (East Main Street) – Ditch cleaning operations. Expect mobile, alternating lane closures with flaggers, between Route 208 (West Main Street) and U.S. 522 (Cross County Road) in the eastbound and westbound lanes, Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(NEW) Route 719 (Days Bridge Road) – Bridge deck repairs. Expect lane and shoulder closures on northbound lane for bridge deck patching, Tuesday through Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Madison County

(NEW) Route 630 (Thoroughfare Road) – Pipe replacement. All lanes closed between Route 631(Leon Road) and Route 632 (Beahm Town Road), Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

(NEW) Route 230 (Wolftown-Hood Road) – Driveway pipe installation. Expect lane and shoulder closures between Route 661 (Trinity Lane) and Route 662 (Graves Mill Road) in the eastbound lanes, Tuesday, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

STAUNTON DISTRICT TRAFFIC ALERT FOR FEBRUARY 27 – MARCH 3, 2023

Highway Work Zones in the VDOT Staunton District

STAUNTON – The following is a list of highway work that may affect traffic in the Staunton transportation district during the coming weeks. The Staunton District consists of 11 counties from the Alleghany Highlands to the northern Shenandoah Valley: Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Highland, Augusta, Rockingham, Page, Shenandoah, Frederick, Clarke and Warren.

Scheduled work is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. When traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

ALLEGHANY COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

*UPDATE* Mile marker 7 to 12, eastbound – Single lane closures for maintenance to various bridges, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. through March 31.

Mile marker 13 to 17, eastbound and westbound – Alternating lane closures for maintenance to bridges over Jackson River, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. through April 30.

PRIMARY ROADS

Various roads – Flagger traffic control for tree and debris removal, drainage work, pothole patching, brush cutting and shoulder repairs. Weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

SECONDARY ROADS

During slow-roll operations, be alert for temporary on-ramp closures at exits 240, 243, 245, 247, 251 and 257. Northbound exit 247 on-ramp closed from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Detour posted. Northbound and southbound overnight lane closures for bridge demolition work, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. through night of April 6. Work is related to Route 720 overpass bridge replacement.

*NEW* Mile marker 242 to 249, northbound and southbound – Overnight northbound or southbound slow-roll traffic control for removal of Route 33 overpass bridges, February 27 – March 30 nights from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Work is related to Route 33 bridge replacements and interchange improvement project.

*NEW* Mile marker 251 to 264, northbound and southbound – Mobile right shoulder closures for ditch cleaning operations, Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

PRIMARY ROADS

*UPDATE* Route 33 (East Market Street, Harrisonburg) – Eastbound and westbound single lane closures as needed between Burgess Road and MLK Jr. Way. Be alert for travel-lane shifts in both directions. Work zone speed limit 25 miles an hour. Traffic restrictions are for Route 33 bridge replacements and interchange improvementproject.

Route 33 (Rawley Pike) – Flagger traffic control between Route 847 (Rawley Springs Road) and West Virginia line for shoulder repairs, ditch and pipe work, brush and tree cutting. Weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. through May 1.

Route 259 (West Lee Street, Broadway) – Traffic uses temporary bridge between Route 42 (Main Street) and Route 1411 (Shenandoah Avenue). Work Zone speed limit 25 miles an hour. Traffic restrictions are for Linville Creek bridge replacement.Estimated project completion November 2023.

Route 720 (Smithland Road/Old Furnace Road) – Closed between Route 718 (Old Furnace Road) and Route F-238 (Buffalo Drive) for replacement of Route 720 bridgewith estimated completion in fall 2023. Follow posted detour.

Route 895 (Fieldale Place) – Closed to through traffic between Harrisonburg city limits and Route 710 (Reservoir Street) for sewer line replacement with estimated completion of March 24. Follow posted detour.

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 11 (Main Street, Mount Jackson) – Northbound shoulder closures with traffic shifted to center lane for curb and gutter work, southbound lane closures as needed. Work zone is between Route 292 (Conicville Road) and Route 1316 (Avondale Avenue), through July 31.

Route 11 (Old Valley Pike) – Flagger traffic control as needed between Route 720 (Wissler Road) and Mount Jackson town limits, weekdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Work zone speed limit 45 miles an hour. Traffic restrictions are for replacement of North Fork Shenandoah River bridge. Estimated completion August 2023.

Route 55 (East King Street/Front Royal Road, Strasburg) – Shoulder closures between Route 1975 (Park Road) and Route 11 (Massanutten Street) for utility work, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. through March 20.

Route 55 (John Marshall Highway) – Flagger traffic control near intersection with Route 761 (Capon Road) for utility work, 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. through Wednesday.

Route 55 (Wardensville Pike) – Flagger traffic control near Shenandoah County line for maintenance to bridge over Cedar Creek, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Friday.

*NEW* Route 211 (West Old Cross Road) – Single lane closures near I-81 interchange for inspection of interstate overpass bridges, Wednesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 600 (Zepp Road) – Flagger traffic control near intersection with Route 603 (Van Buren Road) for maintenance to Cedar Creek bridge, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. through April 24.

FREDERICK COUNTY

INTERSTATE 81 Mile marker 300 to 301, northbound and southbound – Overnight single lane closures for equipment moving and bridge removal work, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. through night of April 6.

*NEW* Mile marker 315 to 316, northbound and southbound – Overnight single lane closures for inspection of Route 744 overpass bridge, Wednesday and Thursday nights from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Route 55 (Wardensville Pike) – Flagger traffic control near Shenandoah County line for maintenance to bridge over Cedar Creek, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Friday.

Route 522 (Front Royal Pike) – Northbound and southbound right lane closures for utility work between Route 756 (Macedonia Church Road) and Route 1054 (Clydesdale Drive), 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. through Friday.

Route 681 (Chestnut Grove Road) – Flagger traffic control between Route 685 (Light Road) and Route 805 (Myers Lane) for maintenance to bridge over Back Creek, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. through April 24.
