VSP Richmond amended the post and added this corrected line:

“The driver of the Camaro, Charles D. McGann, 62, of Afton, Va., and his passenger, Mark D. McGann, 64, both suffered serious injuries. Neither the driver nor the passenger were wearing a seatbelt.”

Commonwealth Attorney Daniel Rutherford reached out to us on Saturday evening March 9, 2024 to let us know in his discussions with the trooper that made the scene, no charges have yet been made as the investigation continues. He was letting us know the official press release version below is inconsistent with the information as he knows it currently.

We have emailed our contacts at VSP in Richmond and will update we we have new information.

We first told you about a serious February crash in Beech Grove here.

Friday afternoon VSP released additional details regarding that crash.

Their release verbatim, below.

“Virginia State Police is investigating a one-vehicle crash in Nelson County on Feb. 27, 2024, that seriously injured two people.

At 7:38 p.m. on Feb. 27, 2024, a 1968 Chevrolet Camaro was headed eastbound on Beech Grove Road when it spun around, ran off the road to the left, and struck a tree on the passenger side of the vehicle.

The driver of the Camaro, Charles D. McGann, 62, of Afton, Va., and his passenger, Mark D. McGann, 64, both suffered serious injuries. Mark McGann was wearing a seat belt while Charles McGann was not wearing a seatbelt.

Charles McGann has been charged with failure to maintain proper control.
