Nelson County, Virginia

As we were preparing a calendar / story on this topic Monday evening. We received the following correspondence from www.ruralnelson.org who was coordinating the planned community meeting this Wednesday at RVCC:

COMPOSTING FACILITY MEETING CANCELED

FOR WEDNESDAY, MARCH 2ND

Comments from Mr. Walter below:

After spending the better part of February meeting members of the
community, I have decided to explore other options for the location of
my future composting facility. It was through open dialog and
meaningful conversations with immediate neighbors that I have decided
that the specifics of the vacant farm at the end of Duncan Lane poses
challenges to my business and neighbors. Thanks to Rural Nelson for
creating a forum and members of the community for engaging in the
conversation.

Below is the information post we were about to put up Monday evening when we received the above correspondence, obviously the meeting is now canceled.

Some of you might have heard that Black Bear Composting is planning to
apply for a permit to operate a composting facility on property on
Duncan Lane off Greenfield Road in Afton. The application has not yet
been submitted to the county so there is more rumor than fact out
there. Rural Nelson is hosting an informational meeting to allow
neighbors and interested citizens to ask their questions of the
applicant, Mr. Eric Walter.
