Tuesday proved to be a day of auto accidents and mishaps across Nelson. In at least one accident the injuries were serious and required a patient be transported by air ambulance. Nelson County Sheriff David Brooks tells NCL that Jordan Hemp, a volunteer with the Rockfish Valley Fire Department was one of the most seriously injured in the 151 accident. “He was flown out by helicopter,” says Sheriff Brooks. As of late Tuesday night Jordan was reportedly undergoing surgery but specific details aren’t known as of this post.
In an unrelated accident, long before daylight Tuesday, traffic was being diverted onto Route 151 from Route 29N near Woods Mill at the wayside just north of Route 6W. A driver with a rig hauling wood chips and sawdust lost the load in the roadway shutting down the northbound side of Route 29 while crews cleaned up the spill. The highway reopened just before daylight Tuesday.
And yet another accident late in the day Tuesday sent more people to the hospital. The accident occurred on Route 29 near the IGA Grocery in Lovingston. Officials on the scene say several adults and possibly two youngsters were transported for medical treatment. Extent of injuries was not available as of this post.
