Roseland
Nelson County, Virginia

Most folks around Nelson don’t think twice about seeing Murray Whitehead painting a roof. That’s his profession! But you wouldn’t ordinarily think about him being in the kitchen. As Part of a Mac’s County Store’s new event, they are having guest chefs from around the area come in on a weekly basis and cook up of their favorite dishes. These aren’t professional chefs, but their food is! The faces will be everyday folks we all see around Nelson.

  1. Great for Mac’s Country Store!!
I always find it a bit sad to see restaurants close, as the Dogwood did recently. Here is an idea….a GREAT Mexican restaurant!! The ambiance and venue is fantastic if used properly.
Margaritas on the porch, a great enchilada, etc….
(Thai Mex is an anomoly! The bar must be bringing them in, because the food isn’t!)

I just thought this was a good opportunity to throw in that suggestion for any restaurant people.

  2. Not exactly what I had in mind….but, cute concept. Whoever decides to venture in to that spot, I hope they give the people what they want!

  3. In response to Lori: You obviously have no idea how hard it is to have a restaurant in this area. the Thai mex has awesome food and maybe people should look around for another salon where the local gossip is not the main focus. Your business is very unprofessional and I know many clients who have chosen other venues because of it.

  4. Becky…Thai Mex is awesome? Are you serious? You are right that I do not know the difficulties of running a restaurant, but I do know..all on my own, that good, fresh food is what brings people back.
I think that people have the right to go to any salon that they choose..we are more than busy, as it has been since I opened it seven years ago!! We are going strong, thank you very much!
Just FYI, it’s not my salon anymore.

  5. I go somewhere much more professional where the stylists actually attend classes to better themselves. It is also refreshing that when you go for a cut, etc. there is no gossip about everyone in Nelson County that they (the stylists) know.

  6. Becky..I have been in the business for over 25 years. My clientele are my number one priority. They know this. It is up to them to set the tone of their appointment.
We primarily speak of what is going on in their lives and mine. The talk of the town is very low on the totem pole, despite what you may think.
I would not be as successful if I was a gossip monger. So, before you go off spouting about what you do NOT know about me, come speak with ME personally. I invite you to come observe me.
This has become so OFF the topic, that it begs to wonder what your defense is over Thai Mex???

  7. Becky, we generally stay out of BB comments, but must defend Beech Grove in this one. Not sure what your personal axe to grind here is, but we can attest from both a personal and professional perspective that everyone at Beech Grove presents themselves in the most professional manner. Yes, in the spirit of full disclosure, they are a long time client of our magazine, all the more reason we would defend them against such random verbal attacks. -T-

  8. Thank you Tommy and Yvette!
I was just suggesting a good restaurant to replace the Dogwood. I hope for them they can return, but if not…you get the point!
Thanks again..I try very hard to be professional!

  9. Becky,
As I think about it further..I will offer you a free haircut (value $40) to show you what our professional salon is all about. We do have fun…but professional at the same time.
Call me and set up your appointment! I would think you may change your opinion.
    Lori

  10. what nelson needs is more saloons and less salons. and whats wrong with floyd’s place anyway?

  11. I think murray’s mexican hoedown is just what nelson needs and i’m willing to finance it. i’ve already got a mariachi band lined up. wow! this could be nelson’s very own own stimulus package.
