LYRICS ALIVE CONCERTS THURSDAY AT ROCKFISH RIVER ELEMENTARY
Mary Bomar and Bob Ritter of Lyrics Alive are back in Nelson County leading songwriting workshops. This is their fifth year working with the fourth graders at Rockfish River Elementary School. Bob and Mary are professional musicians from Indiana who work with students to set poetry to music.
Teacher Nichole Dowdy facilitated the writing of two poems by each 4th grade class. The theme this year is WINTER. This week Mary and Bob are helping the students to polish their lyrics and turn them into songs for the concerts on Thursday.
In a separate workshop at Nelson County High School, Bob and Mary are collaborating with several talented high school musicians to write the melody create instrumental accompaniment for one of the songs. These students will perform with the 4th graders at the Thursday concerts.
Two concerts are scheduled for Thursday at Rockfish River Elementary. At 9:30 a.m. the 4th graders will perform their songs for the 3rd and 5th grade students. The evening concert at 7:00 p.m. is open to parents and the community.
Come enjoy the creativity!
These workshops and concerts are made possible through the generosity of the Dave Matthews Band’s Bama Works Fund in the Charlottesville Area Community Foundation, in conjunction with a Local Challenge Grant from the Virginia Commission for the Arts.
