Reader Scott McGary noted this discrepancy in our coverage regarding the Govs soccer team reaching the state finals this year. It is not the first time in the school’s history that an athletic team has reached the state final:
Our Track Program has 7 (I believe that is accurate) team State Championships including the Single A Boy’s Outdoor Title in 2005, which they won at Radford University as part of the annual Championship Jubilee Radford continues to host. Our Baseball Program lost the AA State Championship game in 1982 to Fort Defiance HS after winning the Region III title and a home state semi-final in front of an equally vocal and supportive community of fans as our soccer team experienced this year. I was one of the nearly 100 students that rode “spirit busses” to Gypsy Hill Park in Waynesboro/Staunton for the state final.
