Kick Off Your Shoes and Enjoy the Summer Fun!
The Wildlife Center of Virginia: A Journey Down the Appalachian Trail!
Monday, June 18, 6:00 PM.
Gear up for an interactive adventure along the Appalachian Trail right here in the library! Learn the unique story of this living landmark, and discover the wildlife that call it home. You’ll also learn the seven principles of “Leave No Trace,” so you can cover your tracks!

Preschool Storytime!
Wednesdays, June 20 – August 1, 10:30 AM. For ages 3 – 5.
Virginia Fun! Learn about our state during these special story times.
June 20: Native Americans! Listen to Indian stories and visit with the Branham family of the Monacan Tribe.
June 27: Oceans! Bring your beach towel to sit on while we listen to stories of the sea, and make a sand craft.
July 11: Birds! Fly on in for stories about our feathered friends. Decorate a birdhouse to take home.
July 18: Fish! Fish stories today! Try your luck at our special fishing hole.
July 25: Mountains! We will be reading about mountains and backpacking , so wear your walking shoes.
We will give you a walking stick to decorate and then head out for a short walk.

Summer Writes: Creative Writing Classes for Young People!
For children entering grades 4 – 8: Wednesday, July 11, 2:00 PM – 3:30 PM.
Learn the basic tools of creative writing in this one-session workshop presented by instructors
from the Charlottesville Writing Center. Registration is required and begins on Wednesday, June 27.

Nicolo the Gypsy! Tuesday, June 26, 2:00 PM. For all ages.
Hear Ye, Hear Ye: Calling all lasses and laddies! Join Nicolo the Gypsy for a Renaissance-style extravaganza. Lots of audience participation is the ticket for enjoying this feast of comedy, juggling, music, and pantomime!

Let’s Make a Circus! Tuesday, July 3, 2:00 PM. For all ages.
Ladies and Gentlemen: Come one, come all and join the circus fun! “Try your stuff” in this interactive show of juggling, magic, rope tricks and amazing feats of balance! Clown Jeanne Wall of the Goodlife Theater will bring you into the center ring, and the center of action, in her one-woman circus.

Ocean Encounters: The Rocky Coast! Tuesday, July 10, 2:00 PM. For all ages.
Can you scuttle like a crab? Float like seaweed? Or have you ever wanted to scoot like a sandpiper? Come
experience life along the ocean’s rocky shores using costumes and role-playing in this interactive journey to the sea.

Hot Soup! Tuesday, July 17, 2:00 PM. For all ages.
Bring your appetites for a deliciously good time! Hot Soup, the talented trio of musicians Sue Trainor, Christina Muir, and Jennie Avila, will serve up a piping hot stew of catchy tunes and richly textured harmonies for your finger-snappin’ pleasure.

World Beat! Tuesday, July 24, 2:00 PM. For all ages.
Get down and groove to the beat of this musical mélange of salsa, mambo, calypso and merengue! Musicians Robert Jospe, of Inner Rhythm, and Kevin Davis, of Ban Caribe, blend history, geography, and music into a performance sure to get you thinking and moving!

Storyteller & Musician Willy Claflin! Tuesday, July 31, 2:00 PM. For ages 4 and up.
Award winning storyteller Willy Claflin will delight you with tunes and tales that tease and please, and guarantee giggles. You’ll meet Maynard Moose, his faithful puppet sidekick, who will share some scrambled Mother Moose tales.

Wacky Wednesday! Visit the Nelson Memorial Library anytime on Wednesday, August 1, find some wacky changes in the library (or library staff), and take home a wacky prize!
