VSP Investigating Fatal Sunday Night Crash In Lowesville (Updated 5.13.22)

“At 10:49 p.m. on Sunday (May 8), Virginia State Police responded to a two-vehicle crash on Lowesville Rd. close to a quarter-mile east of Whitehead Rd.

A 2020 Toyota Tacoma was traveling west on Lowesville Rd. when it crossed the centerline and struck an eastbound 2002 Volkswagen Passat. The impact of the crash caused the Volkswagen to run off the right side of the road and into a ditch and the Toyota to overturn and come to rest in the ditch.

The driver of the Volkswagen, Thomas H. Fitzgerald, III, 52, of Roseland, Va., died during transport. He was not wearing a seatbelt.
The driver of the Toyota, Hunter H. Campbell, 27, of Lowesville, Va., was transported for treatment of minor injuries. He was wearing a seatbelt.

Driver fatigue is being investigated as a contributing factor in the crash. Charges are pending.
The crash remains under investigation.

A Toyota Tacoma and a Volkswagen Passat collided.There is one confirmed fatality. A second person was transported to UVA Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries. The crash remains under investigation.
