Nelson County, Virginia

Congressman Denver Riggleman visited Wintergreen on Tuesday and spoke with
WFD Station Chief Curtis Sheets about fire safety issues facing
Wintergreen and how the Congressional office could help. Currently,
there is only one exit from the Wintergreen Resort, and a having only
a single exit would cause a major threat to public safety in the case
of an emergency such as a fire blocking the main exit. Chief Sheets
has been working to approve a secondary gravel exit that crosses over
National Park land that allows a second exit from the resort.

“This is a public safety issue,” said Congressman Riggleman,
“Especially given recent fires in the past few years where a single
egress point caused major catastrophe, action cannot wait in this
case. My congressional office has already reached out to the National
Park Service and I am hoping to set up a meeting to discuss a
potential solution that allows Wintergreen to build this emergency
exit from the resort area.”

Congressman Riggleman will continue to work on finding an enacting a
solution in as fast and responsible a way as possible.
