Alamance County, NC
BRL learned late Friday evening that Sean Damion Castorina, age 43, has been charged in connection with a plot to blow up the North Carolina jail where he’s being held on charges of first degree murder of a Burlington, NC man in August 2017. The plot information was published in The Times-News in Fayetteville. The case has relevance back here in Nelson County, Virginia where police say he was involved in the shooting of a Rockfish, Virginia woman. They say he first murdered 84 year old Harold Dean Simpson of Burlington in August 2017.
Authorities say he stole Simpson’s car and drove it Nelson County where he eventually shot the woman in Rockfish and fled. The victim survived and recovered, but was left for dead. He and an accomplice, Penny M. Dawson of Burlington, were eventually captured after fleeing Nelson County. They were apprehended far away by the Fergus Falls, Minnesota Police Department. It’s believed they were trying to make it to Canada.
North Carolina authorities immediately extradited the couple back there to stand trial for the murder of Simpson.

All communication should be monitored. Letters should be read to make sure they don’t contain criminal content. This is the perfect example of a man who should be serving life without the possibility of parole. He should have limited contact with the outside world. I hope this is part of Congress’ prison reform. Let’s release people with minor drug charges and keep dangerous people like this murderer away from the population.
