According to the 511 VA message below the accident was clear around 5:30 am Thursday.

I-81 NORTHBOUND RIGHT LANE CLOSED IN ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY

STAUNTON – (6:30 p.m.) The right northbound lane of Interstate 81 is closed in Rockbridge County just north of the Botetourt County line. This is due to a crash involving several tractor trailers near mile marker 174. Incident response crews are working to remove the vehicles, but estimate at least two more hours before the right lane reopens.

Earlier this afternoon both lanes were closed.

Motorists should expect significant delays in this area as clean-up continues.

I-81 NORTHBOUND CLOSED IN ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY

STAUNTON – (4:35 p.m.) Both northbound lanes of Interstate 81 are closed in Rockbridge County just north of the Botetourt County line. This is due to a crash involving several tractor trailers near mile marker 174. Incident response crews are working to remove the vehicles, but estimate at least an hour before a lane reopens. Traffic is currently backed up at least seven miles.

There is a detour in place for I-81 northbound. Drivers will use exit 168 (Arcadia) in Botetourt County, follow Lee Highway north and rejoin the interstate at exit 175 (Natural Bridge) in Rockbridge County.
