Afton / Avon
Nelson County, Virginia

Two major road improvement projects along Route 151 in Nelson County have drivers spending a lot of time sitting still as we head into the busy tourism season in Nelson County. This morning in Avon where Route 6 (Mountain Road) meets Route 151, there was a long backup of cars trying to make their way down Route 151.

Another project south toward Nellysford near the Rockfish Community Center and Route 151 / 6 (River Rd) is also snarling traffic. That project will be ongoing throughout the summer into early fall when it’s expected to be complete.

  1. Poor scheduling to have 2 major construction areas on 151. I live in Afton. When going anywhere I need to leave at least 30 minutes earlier than planned. I’m sure it will be great when completed but right now, what a mess!

  2. So exactly what are the road projects. I don’t see any explanation of what the projects hope to accomplish. Give us some insight of what is happening.

  3. The road construction is a mess because VDOT is a mess! They are one of the worst run state agencies in the commonwealth. They have poor project managers and subcontract out most of their work to private companies, in this case Pearsons, and don’t even know what is going on most of the time! No one could tell me the timeline for this construction mess and if you email them they won’t even answer you. Everything has to go through their central “customer service” call center. SO LET’S INUNDATE THEM WITH COMPLAINT CALLS AT 1-800-367-7623. The person in charge of this whole area is named Don Austin, at least he is the one who shows up representing VDOT at county meetings. Oh and BTW, the county doesn’t care either – no surprise there! We are on our own here so call, call, call and COMPLAIN, COMPLAIN, COMPLAIN! That’s unfortunately the only way to get their attention and action with these incompetent state slackers!!!
