Foggy Conditions Cause Numerous Traffic Accidents On Afton Mountain Along I-64

After a beautiful Thanksgiving, many people were heading back home on Sunday to start their post holiday work week. Combine heavy traffic and fog with near zero visibility on Afton Mountain along I-64 and you had a recipe for disaster. Early Sunday afternoon numerous multi-car accidents starting happening on the interstate.

At one point the entire westbound side of I-64 atop Afton Mountain was closed as accident scenes were cleared.

In addition to I-64 accidents, numerous accidents occurred along I-81 as well.

Weather conditions on the mountain are not expected to improve for the next several hours on the mountain.
