Statement as of 4:52 AM EST on February 17, 2015

…Winter Storm Warning is cancelled…

The National Weather Service in Blacksburg has cancelled the
Winter Storm Warning.

Snow continues to diminish and we are not expecting any
redevelopment…so any additional accumulations will be spotty at
best…and under an inch. Therefore the warning has been canceled.

However…roads will stay slick and snow covered as temperatures
stick around in the teens through mid morning rising into the 20s
by midday. Therefore…travel is discouraged.

* PRECIPITATION TYPE…SNOW.

* ACCUMULATIONS…6 TO 10 INCHES…WITH LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS
EXPECTED ACROSS PORTIONS OF THE NORTHERN VIRGINIA PIEDMONT AND
FOOTHILLS.

* TIMING…SNOW WILL INCREASE IN INTENSITY THROUGH THE EVENING
HOURS. HEAVIEST SNOW IS EXPECTED LATE TONIGHT INTO EARLY
TUESDAY MORNING.

* TEMPERATURES…MID TO UPPER TEENS.

* WINDS…EAST 5 TO 10 MPH.

* IMPACTS…ROADS WILL BECOME SNOW COVERED AND SLIPPERY WITH
VISIBILITIES BEING REDUCED TO ONE HALF MILE OR LESS AT TIMES.
THE COMBINATION OF SNOW COVERED ROADS AND LOW VISIBILITY WILL
MAKE TRAVELING DANGEROUS.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

A WINTER STORM WARNING FOR HEAVY SNOW MEANS SEVERE WINTER WEATHER
CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED OR OCCURRING. SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF SNOW
ARE FORECAST THAT WILL MAKE TRAVEL DANGEROUS. ONLY TRAVEL IN AN
EMERGENCY. IF YOU MUST TRAVEL…KEEP AN EXTRA FLASHLIGHT…
FOOD…AND WATER IN YOUR VEHICLE IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY.
