Via NWS: Some areas of the Central Virginia Blue Ridge are under a Winter Weather Advisory until noon Wednesday – January 14, 2015.

…Winter Weather Advisory will expire at noon EST today…

Patchy drizzle of freezing drizzle will linger into early
afternoon but not expecting any additional accumulation.
However…there will be some lingering slick spots…so travelers
should remain cautious while driving.

Statement as of 4:51 AM EST on January 14, 2015

…Snow continues into the middle morning for central Virginia…

A period of light snow will continue over the central Shenandoah
Valley and central Virginia foothills for the next few hours. A
dusting to one inch of snow is expected to accumulate.

Temperatures in the 20s will allow snow to stick on roadways…making
for hazardous travel overnight and for the Wednesday morning
commute. Please use extra caution if traveling.

WEDNESDAY MORNING. THIS MIXTURE OF SNOW…SLEET AND FREEZING RAIN
WILL LIKELY RESULT IN HAZARDOUS TRAVEL THROUGH MIDDAY WEDNESDAY.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN BLACKSBURG HAS ISSUED A WINTER
WEATHER ADVISORY FOR A MIXTURE OF SNOW…SLEET…AND FREEZING
RAIN…WHICH IS IN EFFECT UNTIL NOON EST WEDNESDAY.

* LOCATIONS…THE FOOTHILLS AND PIEDMONT OF VIRGINIA…INCLUDING
THE ROANOKE AND SOUTHERN SHENANDOAH VALLEYS.

* HAZARD TYPES…A MIXTURE OF SNOW…SLEET AND FREEZING RAIN.

* ACCUMULATIONS…GENERALLY LESS THAN 1 INCH OF SNOW AND
SLEET…BUT THE SLEET WILL COMBINE WITH FREEZING RAIN TO PRODUCE
A THIN COATING OF ICING ON ROADS AND ELEVATED SURFACES.

* TIMING…THROUGH MIDDAY WEDNESDAY.

* IMPACTS…HAZARDOUS TRAVEL ESPECIALLY ON BRIDGES AND
OVERPASSES THAT MAY BECOME ICE COVERED AND SLICK.

* TEMPERATURES…FALLING INTO THE MID 20S.
