Central Virginia Blue Ridge Area
As we’ve been reporting over the past 48 hours, a major winter storm hit the Central Virginia Blue Ridge area with some amounts hitting the 29 inch mark at Wintergreen Resort and points north and west of there. Today the major concern is restoration of power to those still in the dark.
Directly below BRLM’s Tommy Stafford interviewed Greg Kelly with Central Virginia Electric  in today’s weather about the remaining outages and how they are doing on the repairs.
Here’s the latest written info from CVEC as of 10AM:
CVEC has significant damage due to the winter storm with downed power lines and broken poles that will need to be replaced. Many individual circuits have a number of fault locations that will need to be addressed before power will flow to the end of the circuit. Crews are limited given the ground conditions and must carry materials to off-road locations and make repairs without the benefit of bucket trucks or digger derricks in some locations.
While progress will be made today and tomorrow, we are projecting that it will be Saturday or Sunday before service is restored to all members.=
Estimates of service restoration to individual services is not possible, but we have crews working in all areas and members can watch restoration progress on our outage map.
What is the service restoration process?
The major three phase lines will be restored first and that work should be completed today.
From there, the crews will move to begin clearing the problems on tap lines that run along secondary roads and through cross country routes. Most of that work will be completed by tomorrow.
Work that might carry into the weekend will be on areas badly damaged with broken poles and downed conductors which serve small numbers of member or individual services.
Members who are unable to remain in their homes should check with friends and family or contact the county office to learn if any shelter space is open and available.
