The dog days of summer linger on as we head into August. The first full weekend of the month was jammed packed with events. NCL Mountain Photographer Paul Purpura snapped away both on the mountain and in the valley!

On the grounds at Devils Backbone a new performance kicked off this past weekend called Foxfire. Presented by Wolfbane Productions, it's a heartwarming tale of family, loss and the true meaning of home, all set in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains. A live bluegrass band led by Spencer Meeks that accompanies the play. Additional performances will be held - Thursday, August 16, 2012 (7:30 PM-10:00 PM) - Friday, August 17, 2012 (7:30 PM-10:00 PM) - Saturday, August 18, 2012 (7:30 PM-10:00 PM)
Photo by Paul Purpura with permission via Bowen McCauley Dance : Wintergreen Performing Arts closed out the 2012 Summer Music Festival with an outstanding performance by Bowen McCauley Dance, founded by Lucy Bowen McCauley. Based in DC, BMD has continued to fulfill its mission, bringing the joy of dance to people from Virginia to New York, and as far away as Mexico and Germany.
Drop off the mountain and head on over to Lovingston and they were holding their 13th annual Dice Run and 1st annual Swap Meet. Both events helped raise money for LVFD.
Back over in the Rockfish Valley Wintergreen Winery held their annual Pig Roast featuring all you can eat pulled pork and barbeque smoked chicken plus two sides and lemonade - It was catered by BBQ Connection. And of course there was wine!
Not only did Wintergreen Winery have their pig roast this past weekend. Tam Stone, co-owner of the winery, held her 30 year class reunion there too. Happy 30th!
The roads of Nelson were full of Fiats this past weekend. That's because Fiat FreakOut 2012 was held at Wintergreen Resort. The event brings together the largest collection of Fiat and Lancia automobiles in North America to swap stories, show off cars old and new.

Hang on, there’s lots more going on through the month of August right through September and into October, you can click here to view the online calendar courtesy of the Nelson Tourism & Visitor’s Bureau.

Enjoy!
