Rainy & Flooding Thursday Across Nelson County

Heavy rains and thunderstorms moved through Nelson County and much of Central Virginia Thursday afternoon. The expectation of flooding was enough for Nelson County School officials to close schools for the day.

LAUREL STREAM-VM — A normally peaceful stream runs down Laurel Road in Shipman.

Here at NCL in the Rockfish Valley, our weathernet gauge had recorded 1.86″ of rain for the period ending at 6:30PM. Up in the mountains at Devil’s Knob, our Wintergreen Nature Foundation gauge had measured 2.37″ of rain for the same period ending at 6:30PM. For the month the reading at TWNF was 8.24″ as of Friday morning (3.11.11). Here at NCL the monthly total stands at 4.43″ as of Friday morning.

RFR-VM-2 — Fog rises from the cold river as waters push higher up the banks of the Rockfish River Thursday afternoon.

After a soggy couple of days, we dry out nicely for the upcoming weekend with sunny skies and temps in the 60’s!
