For years and years youngsters have grown up learning about horses at Rodes Farm in Nellysford. This summer marks one decade that the Summer Riding Camp has been held for youngsters ages 8 to 10. “Our camp is designed for the beginner to intermediate rider where campers get to explore the different disciplines of English style riding,” says Lindsey Osborne, Rodes Farms Stables’ manager.

Lindsey talks with this week's campers, Caroline Shea, Anika Volentine, Lauren Bautista, Karsan Lyon, Caitlin Shea, and Claire Shea, about determining the technical differences between a horse and a pony. Lindsey's sister, Hayley, far right, is helping out with this year's camp.

Scholarships were made available for the 2010 Riding Camp by a generous offer from Merrill and Jaffray Woodriff. The scholarships provide full or partial funding based upon financial need. “The camp also includes natural horsemanship, dressage, games and the basics of jumping. In addition to riding the days consists of horse education, basic care, and swimming in the afternoon,” Lindsey continues.
