Afton
Nelson County, Virginia

We’re in the dead of summer these days and that means everything planted is maturing, regular gardens and hops! Our Paul Purpura grabbed shots of these over at Blue Mountain Brewery in Afton. Just beautiful!

Though BMB does buy other hops off site, the ones grown there are used in the production of their brews.

Yummy!

  1. Our Hop harvest date at BMB is August 2. We are recruiting hop pickers to spend the day or part
of the day with fun people harvesting hops a rare opportunity. Stan Driver

  2. Join us for our “Tom Sawyer Hop Harvest Day” Monday, August 2nd, from 10AM-7PM…it’s almost as fun as painting a fence!

Put in 2 hours of hop picking (sitting down under our tent) and you’ll get a token for a free sandwich and side salad (ABC laws prohibit us from giving beer away free, but feel free to grab a brew while you pick…or after…or both!)

As our pickers harvest for us, Matt and I will be brewing 1,000 gallons of our wet-hopped “Cascade Tribute Ale”, from 6AM-10PM, adding the fresh hops as they’re picked! The remainder of the hops will be dried and packaged the following day for use in our Full Nelson Ale throughout the year. We really need the help as we are expecting to have thousands of pounds of fresh “wet” hops to get off the bines. Join us as we harvest our (finally) bountiful fourth year Cascade hops and get in on a new Nelson County tradition!
