The calendar still says winter, but Rockfish River Elementary School students got a taste of Caribbean music when the James Madison University Steel Drum Band came to perform this past Friday. As part of their multicultural studies, students in PreK – 5th grade enjoyed learning about the history of the steel drum and lively music, and sang along with the band for one piece.

Funding for the performance was made possible through a grant from the Nelson County Education Foundation.

RRES says thanks to the NCEF for their support and to the JMU band for their enthusiastic performance.

  1. Kudos to all involved in making this happen! These days my daughters usually think everything is “boring” or “dumb” or “for little kids”. Not this time – they both came home saying how much they enjoyed the steel drum performance. My only complaint is that I didn’t get to enjoy the show. 🙂
Glad they had the opportunity to see and hear them. Thanks and great job RRES, NCEF and the JMU band.
