Nelson County, Virginia
We’ve honestly lost count of how many times it’s snowed, just this month! Late Tuesday afternoon and overnight, more snow moved into the area dropping a few inches of snow, sometimes sleet and freezing rain. A Winter Storm Warning was issued for most of the day Tuesday, though no real winter precip started falling until near dusk.
For the 8th day in a row Nelson County Public Schools, and many other area schools were closed. If Nelson doesn’t manage to get in a session Thursday or Friday, it will make two full weeks that classes have been canceled due to winter weather.
The good news, snow and freezing winter precip will be ending Wednesday. The bad news, very, very gusty winds will move in. Some areas of Nelson may see winds gusts as high as 50+ miles per hour into the evening hours Wednesday. A High Wind Warning was in effect for many area counties nearby and it it highly possible some kind of wind advisory will be issued for Nelson as well, at least in the mountainous regions where winds may exceed 60 miles per hour in higher gusts.
By Thursday somewhat gusty winds remain, but for now it appears the upcoming long holiday weekend will be much quieter than several of the past . Though chilly, partly to mostly sunny skies will be the rule through early next week. No dramatically warm temps are in the cards for at least the next 10 days.
