Nelson County, Virginia
After nearly 24 hours of snow falling across Virginia, it’s outta here! In Nelson County amounts varied from a foot or so in the valley up to 18″ in some of the mountainous terrain of the county. You can view a neat roundup of other area snowfall totals by going here to CBS-19 and newsplex.com in Charlottesville.
Primary roads for the most part were all clear by sunset Saturday, but many secondary and back roads were still very hazardous, some impassable.
Since this was a heavy wet blanketing snow, branches breaking out of trees has been a real problem. Central Virginia Electric and every other power company have been working around the clock trying to get the lights back on for their customers. At its peak CVEC reported 10,000 + customers in the dark across their entire system in all of the counties served. By nightfall only a few hundred customers in Nelson County remained without power. They were the hardest ones, and repairs will go into Sunday and perhaps beyond.
The next couple of days will be mostly sunny with temps in the 30’s for valley highs. Another storm system may affect our weather with the promise if a wintry mix by late Monday night thorough Wednesday.
