Nelson County, Virginia
Another round of winter weather moved in late yesterday afternoon and last night dropping several inches of snow and sometimes freezing rain across Nelson County and much of the surrounding area. A Winter Storm Warning was issued but canceled about 3 hours before its 4AM expiration. Most area schools closed their doors again for the third day this week, including Nelson County Public Schools.

Several wrecks or vehicle stranded occurred last night due to the messy roads including a semi trying to make it up Afton Mountain on Route 250.

That’s the good news, believe it or not! Another round of more significant winter weather is developing and will arrive in our area by Friday into the weekend. This one bears watching and may have a major impact once again.

  1. Well I’ve got places to go so does anyone know what the roads are like out there?

It looks like our side roads havent been plowed again ….

  2. thanks, Tommy!

The TrafficLand webcam link is helpful and a nice feature but, yes, my concern is the ancillaries

At least my BPL is doing a good job of keeping me plugged into my office VPN

  3. BTW – I expect that VDOT is doing the best that they can under the circumstances but their 511virginia.org maps do not always reflect the reality of road conditions.

Last week they had 151 as still having ice and snow but the road was clean as a whistle and dry as a bone. Still, I guess it is better to err on the side of caution
