A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY MEANS THAT PERIODS OF SNOW…SLEET…OR

SLIPPERY ROADS AND LIMITED VISIBILITIES…AND USE CAUTION WHILE
DRIVING.

As of Friday morning, A Winter Storm Watch continues across Nelson and much of Central Virginia along and near the BRP. Temps in the valley regions of Nelson had not fallen to the freezing mark by midnight leaving only rain and sleet in the lower elevations. At elevations above 1500 feet in locations like Montebello, Love and Wintergreen Resort, temps have been in the mid 20’s rising to near 30° by daybreak. Freezing rain has been falling there from time to time. However as of this morning, the predicted winter storm has created very little fanfare. It is hard to imagine the current warning will not be canceled or downgraded shortly since temps all across the region are above freezing, but as of 8AM the warning is still in effect by the NWS.

Nelson County Public Schools are operating on a 2 hour delayed schedule as a precaution.

  1. 1/4- to 1/2-inch of ice on trees and most surfaces on the mountain and still raining. Thermometer says about 28 degrees. Luckily not windy.
