Nelson County, Virginia
It’s here! The snow that’s been talked about for a couple of days finally arrived in the mid afternoon hours on Friday.

By 4:15 PM law and rescue agencies reported numerous accidents along Route 29 in Nelson County and in Southern Albemarle County. Route 6 between US 29 and Route 151 is also reported as being very slick and hazardous. I-64 is reported as very slick with many accidents along the interstate between I81 & Charlottesville.

Route 56 E toward Shipman is also very slick with an injury accident being worked late Friday afternoon. So many accidents were being worked or reported they are too numerous to list here.

  1. It’s really coming down up here on the top of Wintergreen’s Devils’ Knob but the snow is fluffy — at this point you can clear it with a broom. Currently the yardstick-in-the-driveway shows 9″ fallen at 8:20 pm. This compares with 2″ at 5:35 pm and 4″ at 6:20 pm.

  2. We were supposed to leave for Atlanta tomorrow from Afton and would like to go as soon as it is safe–any thoughts about whether we might make it out Monday? 151 to 6 to 29 to Charlotte then 85 to Atlanta–. Is there a road safety info number to call? how about for NC, SC, & GA? No tv up here. I’ll be checking in Sunday for any info!

  4. We have 10 inches in Afton as of 9:30 pm. We had 3 inches at 6:50 pm. Traffic is backed up on 151 going towards 250.

  5. Does anyone know if 29 is closed still? I hear there was a major accident in shipman va that has all 4 lanes closed. please update me!

  6. Hi Jen, Sheriff David Brooks just told us the problem areas on 29 are all on the northbound side, near the wayside, Davis Creek & near Albemarle Line.
