Though the skies constantly threatened rain Saturday, the annual Wintergreen Ascent Bike Race went off perfectly! Our Paul Purpura grabbed these fantastic shots as the bikers headed up the mountains in Nelson County.
Anyone in the Nelson area knows this biker, Martin Versluys, co-owner of The Acorn Inn B & B rides each year in the race.
The annual race held each Spring consists of 18 different categories including men, women, junior, along with different age categories.
After a minor fall and scrape earlier, this young man had to push his way up a very steep part of the course on Black Rock Overlook.
Bikers get instructions prior to the start.
The Wintergreen Ascent included a Carb Up Dinner Friday ending with a group ride on Sunday.
This makes the 7th year for the Wintergreen Ascent held in Nelson County, Virginia.
