Afton
Nelson County, Virginia

We first told you last week about the long awaited arrival of playground equipment at The Rockfish Valley Community Center in Afton, Virginia. This past weekend countless volunteers turned out to help install the playground equipment. An informal dedication ceremony will be held this coming Saturday, May 2nd, after the monthly pancake breakfast at RVCC.

Included in the 30 volunteers helping out Saturday were members of the Nelson Home Builder’s Association.

As we have been telling you, Margaret Clair, a member of the RVCC board, is the vision behind the playground. In an email Sunday she mentions everyone that participated Saturday.

” We had Sarah, Whitney, Miles, Josh, Laura, Matt, Catherine, Kate, Julia, Meghan, Laura & Matt from APO; and Brad Vergin (Gaia Homes), Al & Sharon Stacey (Gaia Homes), Jeff Clair (ClairWorks), Larry Cabaniss (Cabaniss Construction), David Thompson (Thompson Construction), Tim Gorman (Cardinal Point Winery & board member), Gifford Childs (Renaissance Man and board member), Frank Craig (Craig Construction), Don Lansing (Berry Hill Builders), Brad Bridge (Renaissance Man and board member surrogate), Chris Green (Weaver Insurance), and Jace Goodling (Goodling Enterprises & Goat Busters). Special thanks go to Bo Holland who tolerated me yelling at her all day and Lea Cole without whom I could not have continued on into the afternoon. Also special thanks go to Tom Massie who helped us unload, Ben Butler of 84 Lumber who donated the materials for the playhouse and for Jeff McGann who delivered deck plugs just in the nick of time.”

Though much of the work was completed Saturday, they still need to side the playhouse which should be done this week. “We are meeting on Monday at 10 am to square up the play equipment and get it ready for concrete which we hope to pour on Tuesday at 10am. Mulch arrives on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday,” Margaret continues.
