With warmer days ahead and sunny skies, preparations got underway Saturday for the opening of the 2009 Nelson Farmers Market Co-op next month. Volunteers spent most the day driving stakes and raising the tent for the highly popular outdoor market held from May through October in Nellysford, Virginia at the entrance to Stoney Creek.

In addition to the normal tents at the market, an additional wine tasting tent will be on hand to highlight local vineyards and wineries in Nelson.

The Nelson Farmers Market Co-op will kick off on May 2nd 2009 at 8:00 AM. This year an offshoot of the market will operate in Lovingston on Wednesday’s starting May 6th. You can visit the market web site at: www.nelsonfarmersmarket.com

In nearby Schuyler, their brand new Schuyler Community Farmers’ Market will kick off on May 9, 2009 at 8:30 AM. Additionally, local online entrepreneur, Jessie Carter, of Faber, VA has started a web version of a local farm market at www.nelson.locallygrown.net where orders can be placed online then picked up in a few days at The Rockfish Valley Community Center in Afton, VA.
