A developing winter storm that is already affecting parts of the mid-south to our west figures in the mix for a significant impact on Nelson County and Wintergreen over the next 48 to 72 hours. The exact track of a low pressure area will determine how much and what kind of wintry weather get get here in Nelson County. By Sunday night the Blacksburg NWS office to our south had already issued a Winter Storm Watch that begins Monday night into Wednesday. As we thought would happen, the NWS in D.C. followed up with their own watch to begin late Tuesday into Wednesday for the Nelson-Wintergreen area.

It is very likely that additional weather statements or watches and warnings will be issued for Nelson County and other counties nearby as the system moves closer and a better track is known.

  1. Hi Tommy,

You are working much too hard these days!

Although the picture was taken at sunset, what is actually pictured is “earth shadow” which happens in the opposite direction where sunset takes place.

The sun is just below the horizon and its rays are being refracted through the earth’s atmosphere. The blues and greens are refracted out, leaving the yellows and the reds.
