Nellysford
Nelson County, Virginia

For the second full day, temperatures never made it above the 20’s for afternoon highs in the valley region of Nelson County, and never topped the teens on the mountains. Overnight lows for two straight nights have been well below 0° on the mountains and in the valley.

Many areas along the banks of the Rockfish have started freezing completely over due to the very cold temps.

The sub zero temps have created a huge mess all over the region with pipes freezing in many homes and businesses. Additionally numerous chimney and house fires were reported on Saturday as a result of people either trying to thaw out pipes or building fires to stay warm.

One of the larger house fires was just south of Lovingston on Saturday afternoon.

Temps will rise slightly above freezing in the valley on Sunday to the upper 30’s – but on the mountains temps will remain below the freezing mark for Sunday and Monday.

There is a slight chance for light snow Sunday night into Monday across the regions as a low pressure disturbance moves through the area. At this time, only light accumulation is in the forecast, if any.
