Apparently Broadband Over Powerline (BPL) will be activated soon.

In a mass e-mail sent out by IBEC customer service Monday, and in comments posted on our site by IBEC, an agreement has been reached with Verizon for the installation of their lines providing the internet backbone to BPL. We have followed the entire history of BPL / Verizon events here.

Today’s e-mail from IBEC:

From: “IBEC Customer Service”
Date: November 3, 2008 1:30:28 PM EST
To: “info”
Subject: Martins Store BPL Update

IBEC is pleased to announce that the issue regarding Verizon and the backhaul circuits has now been resolved. Verizon has agreed to continue installing the circuits. We will let you know as soon as the circuits are activated. We will then start turning on the first customers a few days after the circuits are online.

Thanks for your patience,
IBEC Customer Service

No time frame was given in the e-mail, as to when service could be expected, but with much of the work already done on both sides, it would seem that BPL service would start relatively soon.

If anyone is activated, please drop a comment here so we can track the progress!

  1. Well, Finally I know that BPL exists! Or at least, the dial up works. At the moment, I am connected through their server at 48.0 kbps through a 326 number. Typically through this computer, I connect at 49.2, so I guess that’s not bad.

Although I was assigned a sign-on ID & password (which I previously chose, apparently) the person I talked to did not seem to know about such things as pop servers, incoming and outgoing mail servers, so I cannot set up Thunderbird or Outlook Express with this system.

Thanks, Tommy, for your special help, and if Greg or anyone else out there can help (in advance of FULL deployment) please let me know. Thanks, Chuck Strauss
