…WINTER STORM WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM LATE TONIGHT THROUGH
FRIDAY AFTERNOON..
.

THE NEXT STORM SYSTEM WILL SPREAD PRECIPITATION INTO THE REGION
FROM THE SOUTHWEST TONIGHT THROUGH THE DAY FRIDAY. PRECIPITATION
ONSET ACROSS CENTRAL VIRGINIA APPEARS TO BE AFTER MIDNIGHT…
WHILE PRECIPITATION IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN ACROSS NORTHERN MARYLAND
NEAR THE PENNSYLVANIA BORDER A COUPLE HOURS BEFORE SUNRISE.

WEST OF I-95 PRECIPITATION WILL BEGIN AS SLEET BEFORE CHANGING TO
FREEZING RAIN. IN THE SHENANDOAH VALLEY…IN THE VICINITY OF I-
81…TEMPERATURES ARE EXPECTED TO REMAIN SUBFREEZING THROUGHOUT
THE NIGHT. PRECIPITATION IS EXPECTED TO FALL AS RAIN OVERNIGHT…
FREEZING ON CONTACT WITH TREES AND ROADS. BY FRIDAY MORNING UP TO
ONE QUARTER INCH OF ICE ACCUMULATION IS POSSIBLE.

IF CONDITIONS CONTINUE TO INDICATE THESE AMOUNTS OF ICE…A
WINTER STORM WARNING WILL LIKELY BE ISSUED LATER TODAY.

AS THE SYSTEM DEPARTS THE AREA LATE FRIDAY AND FRIDAY NIGHT…
WIND GUSTS OF 30 TO 40 MPH WILL BE POSSIBLE. THIS COULD
CONTRIBUTE TO THE DOWNING OF TREES AND POWER LINES WHERE ICE
COATS THESE SURFACES. POWER OUTAGES WILL BE POSSIBLE FRIDAY
NIGHT.

A WINTER STORM WATCH MEANS THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR SIGNIFICANT
ICE AND SLEET ACCUMULATIONS THAT MAY IMPACT TRAVEL. CONTINUE TO
MONITOR THE LATEST FORECASTS.
