    Nellysford / Beech Grove, Virginia

Saturday was a perfect afternoon for a hike around the Rockfish Valley Loop Trail just south of Nellysford. Rockfish River Day was sponsored this past weekend by The Rockfish Valley Foundation and Friends of Rockfish Watershed.

Guest speakers and walk leaders included Doug Hutzell, engineer with Environmental Services, Hagerstown, Maryland, Brett Waller, geologist from VDOT Staunton Office and John McClain, VDOT river project engineer for the Rockfish River restoration project. On the walk the geology of the Rockfish Valley including the Rockfish Fault and the river restoration were discussed.

Peter Agelasto, III held the event to give the public a better look at what the trail is all about.

Above, Betsy Agelasto talks to some of those on the walk Saturday afternoon at the Rockfish Valley Loop Trail.

Here, Peter Agelasto, IV holds a mic to record one of the presentations given at Saturday’s event.

Many people turned out to learn more about the river and the trail.

If you didn’t make this past weekend’s event, you can read more about it and the trail in the August issue of NCL on stands later this month!
