Celebration ’07
Each summer, Wintergreen Performing Arts presents the Wintergreen Summer Music Festival and Academy. The 2007 Wintergreen Summer Music Festival and Academy will take place from July 9 – 29, 2007 at the Wintergreen Resort in Wintergreen, Virginia.

2007 Wintergreen Summer Music Festival and Academy
July 9-29, 2007

Wintergreen Performing Arts 11th Annual Summer Music Festival, “Celebration ’07,” July 9-29, 2007, honors the 400th Anniversary of Jamestown, Virginia, and the 200th Anniversary of Nelson County, Virginia. Wintergreen Performing Arts will celebrate these two important milestones by featuring music written, premiered, or published in 1607, 1707, 1807, 1907 and 2007!

Some of the highlights include:
July 14-15: The Wintergreen Festival Orchestra and conductor Christopher Zimmerman (Music Director, Symphony of Southeast Texas and Music Director, Hartt Symphony Orchestra) performing Elgar’s Introduction and Allegro, Op. 47, Sibelius’ Symphony No. 3 in C Major, Op. 52, and Dvorak’s Symphony No. 9 in e minor, Op. 95 (“From the New World”)
July 21-22: A concert version of Claudio Monteverdi’s rarely heard landmark operatic masterpiece, Orfeo, as adapted by Ottorino Respighi in 1934-1935 for Teatro alla Scala in Milan.

July 28-29: A gala performance by the Wintergreen Festival Orchestra and conductor Peter Oundjian (Music Director, Toronto Symphony Orchestra and Artistic Advisor and Principal Guest Conductor, Detroit Symphony Orchestra) performing Beethoven’s Coriolanus Overture, Op. 62 and Symphony No. 5 in c minor Op. 67. World-renowned violinist Robert McDuffie will be the soloist in Bruch’s Violin Concerto in g minor, Op. 26.
The premiere of a new work for narrator and piano by Wintergreen Performing Arts’ new Artistic and Executive Director, Larry Alan Smith.
The premiere of a new play (A Shadow of Honor) by Helen Hayes Award-winning playwright Peter Coy, presented in cooperation with the Earl Hamner Theater.
Performances by students from the Wintergreen Summer Music Academy, including new works by student composers
Plus, morning seminars that deal with music, history and poetry; chamber music concerts; two very special pops concerts; masterclasses; open rehearsals; and a variety of new events.
